Description:
From the legacy of slavery to ongoing racial trauma, discrimination, and oppression, the echoes of historical injustices reverberate through generations, shaping our internal landscapes and relational dynamics. Intergenerational Trauma leaves a mark on our thought processes, influencing how we perceive ourselves and others, and impacting our capacity for authentic connection. In our daily lives, the manifestations of this trauma are evident, often perpetuating cycles of harm and disconnection.
Rooted in survival instincts forged in unsafe environments, protective behaviors born from generational trauma have become ingrained, yet misunderstood aspects of the way we think and behave. These defenses, while once crucial for survival, now impede our growth and well-being. Recognizing the burdens we carry; it becomes imperative to embark on a journey of healing from these deep-seated wounds.
Internal Family Systems (IFS) theory offers a transformative approach to navigating the complexities of generational trauma. By cultivating a compassionate relationship with our inner selves, IFS facilitates the unearthing of protective parts and wounded inner children, fostering a deeper understanding of our behaviors, and thought patterns. Through this process, we reclaim agency over our lives and forge a path towards healing and integration.
This presentation delves into the intersection of intergenerational trauma and Internal Family Systems theory, offering insights into the mechanisms through which past traumas influence our present experiences. By shedding light on the protective mechanisms that shape our behaviors, attendees will gain clarity on their internal dynamics and acquire practical tools for navigating the healing journey.
