Reframing Intergenrational Trauma: A Decolonized Approach to Healing Legacy Burdens

This conversation brings a decolonized, collective lens to historical and intergenerational trauma, exploring how legacy burdens and collective soul wounds are transmitted across generations and compounded by current harms. Drawing on theories of trauma transmission, epigenetics, and community-based healing practices, Deran Young and Dr. Jennifer Mullan will discuss how clinicians can recognize when a client may be carrying intergenerational or ancestral wounds.

The talk moves beyond an individual pathology model toward a lineage- and community-centered practice, addressing concepts like sacred rage, soul exhaustion, and the shame clients often carry around these experiences. Practical guidance will be offered on how clinicians can talk with clients about these dynamics and support practices such as rest, nervous system regulation, and reconnecting with ancestors.
This conversation will be followed by a Q&A.
