Intergenerational Trauma: Family-Centered Interventions for Depression, Bipolar, and Trauma-Related Mental Health Challenges

Presented by Dana E. Crawford, PhD, this FREE 3-hour workshop on September 24, 2026 at 10am ET explores how experiences of trauma, stress, and adversity can echo across generations and influence family relationships, adolescent mental health, attachment, emotional regulation, and connection.
The patterns showing up in your sessions didn’t start with your client. Intergenerational trauma reshapes nervous system responses, attachment bonds, and family identity—often across generations. When it goes unaddressed, the symptoms repeat. Join Dana E. Crawford here for a 3-hour workshop from Norton Mental Health built to change that.
Participants will consider the behavioral, relational, cultural, and neurobiological ways that families adapt to inherited and ongoing stressors, with attention to families affected by depression, bipolar disorder, psychosis, trauma-related challenges, and chronic stress.
Grounded in Family Systems Theory and Attachment-Based Family Therapy, the workshop offers practical, strengths-based interventions that therapists can bring directly into their clinical work.
Participants will learn how to use genograms and eco-maps to identify intergenerational patterns; offer family psychoeducation that reduces conflict, blame, and shame; support repair conversations between caregivers and youth; and develop relapse-prevention plans that promote safety, connection, resilience, and healing across families and communities.
