What’s been happening at BTR
Heal the Healers BTR Book Club’s winter read is Ken Hardy’s Racial Trauma Clinical Strategies and Techniques for Healing Invisible Wounds. Hosted by Black Therapists Rock founder, Deran Young and BTR board member Denise Montgomery, the club is a delightful haven for readers of all kinds open to the entire community. We’ll discover new authors and share perspectives on the information covered. We’ll also have the pleasure of inviting authors to join us for virtual discussions, giving us unique insights into their works. Our mission is to create a welcoming community where everyone can connect, engage, and grow through the magic of reading. The winter read dates are February 25, April 1, and April 29, 2026. Come be in community with us. All are welcome. Get the zoom link here to join us!

Family therapist Makungu Akinyela shares his testimony therapy model—a healing practice rooted in Black cultural traditions of testifying, storytelling and the oral traditions of African diasporic peoples. He maps out theory, practices, and supervision approaches that help therapists support clients in resisting internalized racism, reclaiming self-definition, and nurturing liberated Black identities. Ultimately, this work is a call for Black therapists and clients to engage therapy as cultural resistance—a pathway to repair our souls and build collective freedom beyond Eurocentric limitations.
